Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson turns this podcast into an artproject of its own: Before listening to the talk, laStaempfli suggests you listen to a sample of his:

Here Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson talks about his amazing journey from a little boy in Island on his way to Den Haag, Hannover, Köln, Berlin, Japan, Vienna and back again and many other places. The Diversity this white male in his 40s is astounding and yes: Björk is always present. Sigtryggur makes us listener understand what it means to be totally into sound.

His official CV reads as follows: Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson (b. 1977) is an Icelandic musician and sound artist, founding member of Stilluppsteypa. Sigmarsson was born in Akureyri, Iceland and studied sound art at the Fachhochschule in Hannover, Germany from 1998 to 2003. Apart from being a member of Stilluppsteypa, he released a number of solo albums in the early 2000’s on such labels as Trente OiseauxERSHelen Scarsdale AgencyFire Inc. and Bottrop-Boy. He is also a member of ‚laptop orchestra‘ Evil Madness. After a long break in solo career, Sigtryggur started releasing solo records again in 2013, and already published over a dozen of albums on CD/CDr, cassette and LP, mostly for the reanimated Some (2) label (used to be a sub-label on defunct Fire Inc., now operating separately). Among new albums there are also collaborations with BJNilsenFranz GrafTom Smith (2) from USAand Malneirophrenia trio in Iceland.

Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson is probably most known for his energetic performances at a wide array of venues. His approach is that of the trembling artist, struggling to make sense and direction out of a creative impulse. Regardless of the medium, there is a continuous search for order and chaos throughout his body of work. With his series of drawings Sigmarsson distorts the normal, daily life by drawing very common objects in an abstract way. For some time he has been releasing solo recordings with albums on Trente Oiseaux, ERS, Helen Scarsdale, Fire Inc., Hanson Records, Bawag Contemporary Vienna, Korm Plastics, Bottrop Boy, Ultra Eczema and De Player. Sigtryggur currently lives and works in Hannover, Germany.

Solo exhibitions of Sigtryggur include Galerie Tatjana Pieters, Ghent (BE), Lindenau, Leipzig (DE), Castle Insterburg, Tchernyakhovsk (RU), Museums Quartier (AUS), Kunstschlager, Reykjavik (IS), Der Grieche, Berlin (DE), National Gallery of Iceland, Reykjavik (IS), Rocksbox Fine Art, Portland (USA), Hectoliter, Brussels, Stadslimiet, Antwerpen & Basement Gallery, Vienna (AT). Participation in various group exhibitions amongst others Copenhagen Art Festival, Copenhagen (DK), 21er Kunsthaus, Vienna (AT), The Living Art Museum, Reykjavik (IS), De Vleeshal, Middelburg (NL) & Galerie Tatjana Pieters, Ghent (BE)

In a very daring passage, laStaempfli asks Sigtryggur what female influences he got as an artist since men never mention women but women always mention men, he quotes many great female artists who are still an inspiration for him. Great and laStaempfli wishes that would happen more often, oh well.

One of the great experiments by Sigtryggur was the album he made, making people trying to pronounce his name. Here a sample, and you can buy the record. https://ultraeczema.bandcamp.com/album/masterclass
